My hometown. Lived here for most of my life.  Rated as the best city in California to raise children. Safe. Clean. Good schools.  Need I say more?  Walnut Valley Unified, the school system here is one of the best in CA.   Academically, graduates of Diamond Bar High School tend to shine;  the DBHS graduates often get into top tier and second tier Universities.   It offers a wide variety of sports and educational programs that teach kids music/dancing/arts, languages etc.  It has a great park system, enough open space for kids to play in, hiking trails for families to enjoy, Summer day camps that include arts and crafts, sports, games, and trips. Community events such as Concerts in the park, festivals, etc., etc.

It is not only safe but quiet as well. Diamond Bar is only 10 minutes from Orange County (areas like Brea, Yorba Linda and Fullerton) and you can be downtown LA in 40 minutes;  freeways are easily accessible. Diamond Bar may be a smaller city in comparison to other major cities, but it is a gem in the southern part of Los Angeles County.

According to the 2000 census, Diamond Bar is 33.3% White, 50.4% Asian, 3.9% Black, and 18.5%

Business-wise, large chains are prominent in everything from supermarkets to auto body shops. There are a fair amount of small businesses, among them, some real gems.  However, there is a downside, the available choices of restaurants are overall barely adequate, luckily neighboring cities provide a great coverage of all sorts of food (Chino Hills, Walnut, Rowland Heights). As a note, reflecting the surrounding demographic mentioned above, the local area as a whole is very strong in some great Asian food.

 

To me it is the perfect mix of being secluded enough to retreat from the hustle and bustle of a busy day and close enough that you can get to beaches, fine dining and the Mountains all in one day! And the weather is perfect, warm days and cool nights!
